It's a busy, fast-paced environment with many visitors each day. The Homework Center coordinator pairs tutors with students according to their skills and the students' needs, in order of arrival. Each session is about 30 minutes, then the tutor switches to the next student. Students may sign up for multiple tutor sessions in a day. Tutors are also required to attend one (free) tutor training through the Minnesota Literacy Council during their first semester of volunteering, and there are other optional training sessions throughout the year.
CLOSED DATES: M.E.A., Veteran's Day, Winter Break, MLK Jr. Day, Spring Break
About Homework Centers:
SPPL Homework Centers are comfortable spaces at the library where students can drop in and work on their homework independently or with the help of volunteer tutors. Volunteers assist students with homework, create a welcoming atmosphere at the homework centers, and act as positive role models for students of all ages.
Rondo Library, located in Frogtown, has the highest attendance and need for tutors, but we also have opportunities in West side Saint Paul (Riverview Library), Dayton's Bluff, Sun Ray, Rice Street, and Arlington Hills Community Center/Library.
